Katia McGuirk is the Executive director of the TileWorks of Bucks County, located in Doylestown, Pa.In April of 2021 she formed a Not-for-Profit to assume operations of the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, the purpose built tile factory of America's Arts and Crafts tile maker,since 1898, Henry Chapman Mercer. The 1912 Spanish Colonial mission style building is a National Historic Landmark, a Working History Museum and a Cotemporary and Historic Tilery. T the stories, philosophy & practices of Henry Chapman Mercer. The material culture, ceramic traditions stories & practice are interpreted through a personal encounter with the past through objects, demonstrations, preservation, education and tourism. McGuirk has also served as a director of the Tile Heritage Foundation since 2011 a.mission based organization dedicated to documenting the tile industry in this country from 1897 to the present, saving ceramic surfaces & eeping the craft alive. For 45 years she has her hands in clay, as her vocation and and 55 years as her avocation. She continues to lead, teach, build, inspire, make & design with clay. If there ever was a tile nerd, McGuirk has earned her badge.
